Miss Italia nasce nel 1939, ma non come un vero e proprio concorso di bellezza, ma come sponsorizzazione di un dentifricio, il concorso si chiamava in quegli anni “Cinquemila lire per un sorriso” e le partecipanti concorrevano per aggiudicarsi il titolo di “Miss Sorriso“.
Miss Italy was founded in 1939, but it was not as a real beauty contest, but as a toothpaste sponsorship, the competition in those years was called “Five thousand pounds for a smile“ and the participants competed for the title of “Miss smile“.
Il concorso nel 1942 a causa della seconda guerra mondiale viene interrotto e riprende nel 1946, con il titolo “Miss Italia” che ha tutt’oggi.
